Physical Education Department

Mission
Our Mission is to provide a safe environment in which every child can experience and learn a variety of skills and activities so that they can be more successful in their future physical activities. Our program provides a framework in which students can develop physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. As students leave our program, they will have gained a foundation of knowledge, skills and confidence to explore new and exciting ways to stay active, and pursue lifelong health.
Philosophy
It is our belief that the mind and body are interdependent; the body must be fit if the mind is to function at its maximum potential. We also believe that good fitness habits, started at a young age, have a better chance of carrying over into adulthood, improving overall health and quality of life.
PHMS PE Dress Code
The PHMS PE dress code consists of a PHMS Physical Education T-shirt and PHMS Physical Education shorts OR a store-bought gray/white plain T-shirt and navy-blue athletic shorts (no pockets & with at least a 6-inch inseam) that allow for comfortable, unrestricted movement and is suited for outdoor temperatures. The PE clothing tops and bottoms should have the student’s first name and last name clearly labeled on the front. PE clothing must be washed at least once a week and brought back the next day. Everyday, students should have athletic shoes that are appropriate for activities that may get wet and dirty.
COLD WEATHER: Patrick Henry sweatpants or other non-school bought light gray or navy-blue sweatpants with no pockets and with the student’s first and last name clearly labeled, are allowed. Sweatshirts may be worn, but the ‘hoods’ on a “hoodie” sweatshirt may NOT be worn at all.
